Curry County Community Organizations Active in Disaster (CCCOAD)
A Program of the Northwest American Indian Coalition (NAIC)
The Curry County Community Organizations Active in Disaster (CCCOAD) is an essential program under the Northwest American Indian Coalition (NAIC), designed to bring together community resources and expertise to address the challenges posed by disasters. As a collaborative network, CCCOAD ensures that organizations, volunteers, and community members work together effectively to enhance disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation efforts in Curry County.
What is a COAD?
A COAD (Community Organizations Active in Disaster) is a coalition of local organizations, nonprofits, businesses, and government agencies that unite to support communities during all phases of a disaster. COADs focus on:
Communication: Providing accurate, timely information to partners and the community.
Coordination: Reducing duplication of efforts by aligning resources and services.
Collaboration: Strengthening partnerships to address unmet needs and build resilience.
COADs are not direct service providers. Instead, they act as a bridge, connecting organizations and resources to ensure that no community member is left behind during a disaster.
CCCOAD: Strengthening Curry County’s Resilience
As a program of NAIC, CCCOAD takes a culturally sensitive and inclusive approach to disaster management. Our efforts focus on serving vulnerable populations, including elders, children, those with access and functional needs, and marginalized communities.
NAIC’s deep commitment to cultural preservation, equity, and environmental stewardship informs CCCOAD’s approach, ensuring that disaster preparedness and response efforts are not only effective but also equitable.
Our Focus Areas
CCCOAD operates under NAIC’s mission to protect and uplift the community through collaborative efforts. Key areas of focus include:
Preparedness: Educating and empowering the community to be disaster-ready.
Response Coordination: Organizing resources and volunteers to meet immediate needs during emergencies.
Long-Term Recovery: Supporting individuals and families in rebuilding their lives after a disaster.
Cultural Sensitivity: Ensuring that response efforts respect and uphold cultural practices and values.
How CCCOAD Works
During a disaster, CCCOAD acts as a hub for communication and resource coordination.
Activation: CCCOAD is activated when a disaster strikes, and its members work closely with Curry County’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to support response efforts.
Subcommittees: CCCOAD organizes subcommittees focused on specific needs
Partnerships: CCCOAD collaborates with local organizations, government agencies, and faith-based groups to amplify impact and fill gaps in services.
