About the Advisory Council

The Advisory Council serves as the primary governance and organizational leadership body for the Northwest American Indian Coalition (NAIC). This Council provides oversight, guidance, and strategic direction for all NAIC programs, ensuring that our work remains aligned with our mission, values, and responsibilities to both our ancestors and future generations.

While our cultural work is deeply rooted in Indigenous knowledge, the Advisory Council ensures that NAIC operates with transparency, accountability, and strong organizational health across all of our initiatives, partnerships, and administrative functions.

Our Purpose

  • Provide governance, financial oversight, and policy guidance to support NAIC’s long-term stability.

  • Ensure that NAIC’s mission and programs remain grounded in Indigenous values, community priorities, and cultural responsibilities.

  • Review and advise on new initiatives, funding opportunities, partnerships, and organizational growth.

  • Support NAIC leadership and staff in navigating complex legal, financial, and administrative responsibilities.

  • Protect and strengthen NAIC’s accountability to the communities and homelands we serve.

Our Role in NAIC

The Advisory Council supports all NAIC programs and circles, including:

  • The Generations Council

  • The Ancestral Homelands Circle

  • The Caretakers Alliance

  • NAIC’s cultural, health, advocacy, and educational programs

The Advisory Council works closely with the Executive Director, program staff, and leadership councils to ensure that NAIC remains strong, balanced, and accountable as we continue to grow.

Who Serves on the Advisory Council

The Advisory Council includes:

  • Tribal citizens with ancestral ties to Curry County and the surrounding region

  • Cultural leaders

  • Community elders

  • Technical experts with experience in nonprofit management, financial oversight, policy, and administration

Council members serve by nomination and appointment to ensure a balance of cultural leadership, community representation, and organizational expertise.

Governance & Responsibility

The Advisory Council holds responsibility for:

  • Legal and financial compliance

  • Organizational integrity

  • Strategic planning

  • Oversight of NAIC’s bylaws, policies, and governance structure

  • Supporting ethical partnerships and responsible growth
