Northwest American Indian Coalition (NAIC) has recently completed the in-person training phase and is now transitioning into the adaptation phase of the Healing of the Canoe Program. Our adapted curriculum, "Healing of the Trails," will center on the land and the interconnectedness of our tribal heritage.
About Healing of the Trails
Healing of the Trails is an innovative program designed to cultivate essential life skills for our Tribal youth in Curry County. By utilizing the Trail Journey as a powerful metaphor, this program aims to guide our youth through their own life journeys, grounded in the rich cultural heritage and wisdom of our ancestors.

The curriculum emphasizes:
Life Skills Development: Equipping our youth with the tools they need to navigate life's challenges and opportunities.
Cultural Connection: Strengthening the connection to our land and heritage, fostering a sense of identity and belonging.
Community Engagement: Encouraging active participation in community activities and traditions to build a supportive network.

Trail Journey Metaphor: The journey along the trails symbolizes the journey through life, teaching resilience, perseverance, and the importance of staying true to one's path.
Culturally Grounded: The program is deeply rooted in our tribal traditions, ensuring that the teachings are relevant and respectful of our heritage.
Holistic Approach: Addressing physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being, the curriculum supports the overall development of our youth.
