Oregon Unaffiliated Tribal Citizen and Unrecognized Tribes Survey

Project UNrecognized:
Illuminating the Path Towards Equity for Unaffiliated Indigenous Communities
.

About the Survey

Introduction

Project UNrecognized is dedicated to the development and implementation of a comprehensive needs assessment and report, focusing on individuals and communities who remain outside the purview of federal recognition, fall beyond eligibility due to blood quantum, or have been disenrolled due to technicalities. Our mission is to illuminate the path toward understanding the unique challenges and unmet needs of these often unknown and unreported groups. By gathering essential data, we aspire to bring their experiences to light, champion their rights, and drive progress toward a future characterized by inclusivity and equity.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to set a new standard in understanding and addressing the distinctive challenges encountered by non-federally recognized tribes and unaffiliated tribal citizens through a groundbreaking and comprehensive data initiative.

Why It Matters

At present, there is a glaring lack of data that acknowledges the existence of this specific population, and the full extent of the disparities they face remains largely unknown.

The profound disparities they endure remain largely obscured, casting a shadow over their lives and hindering progress towards equitable solutions.

Our journey begins ambitiously, with an initial focus on surveying and gathering data in Curry County, Oregon. Our sights are set on expanding these efforts across the entire state, and ultimately, taking this vital mission nationwide. This comprehensive data initiative is unprecedented, setting a new standard for understanding the unique challenges faced by non-federally recognized tribes and unaffiliated tribal citizens.

By illuminating the distinct experiences and needs of this population, we envision a future where policies become more inclusive and responsive to their realities. The light we shine on their stories will pave the way for a brighter, more equitable future for all Indigenous communities.

Your support and active participation in this groundbreaking project are pivotal. Together, we are catalysts for change, and your involvement plays a vital role in making a meaningful impact.
